Yesterday, during our online class a student shared his newscast on the current state of Covid. When he came to the part where he revealed the number of cases many students murmured, "Wow!" "That's a lot, can that be right?" I could see all their little faces in the checkerboard array. (Except for the shy, or stubborn ones who refuse to use their camera) Some showed confusion, some surprise and even one student looked a tad fearful.
I sat back, and marveled at their eight year old "savviness." I never get tired of reveling in it. In but a few seconds, they had grasped the enormity of this horrific point in time when many adults could not, or would not.
It must be so difficult and challenging to teach young children in this period. This is a wonderful moment you've captured. I'm wondering what followed. Also wondering about the shy and stubborn ones whose reactions you could not see.
