I don't count them as coincidences. They have happened too many times in my 24 year teaching career to fall into such a cliche category as that. These incidents happen at a time when I am ready for them, or more importantly, just when I need them.
One such incidence was just a few days ago at the height of frustration with distance learning. (I guess that begs the question, is there even a limit to one's frustration with distance learning? Oops! I digress) This particular morning our morning meeting question was, "What's the very FIRST thing you will do when the restrictions are lifted, and life returns to normal?"
Well, the responses started sputtering in ( much like the exhaust on an old car) and then a steady stream. "I'd get special permission to ride my bike to my best friends," and "I'd run outside my apartment, and yell I'm free!" The responses seem to grow in intensity. Each eight year old was feeding off the other one. Their thoughts were triggering each other's. "I'd take all the masks in my house and ball them up in my hand. Then I would throw them in the trash!"
I don't know why my eyes watered on the last one. I think I really needed to see another perspective full on. There is NOTHING as pure, and real as a child's view. I think I also needed some purpose that day, and I sure got some.
